Formcut was started as a cnc routering service offered at the Betahaus co-working space, but has since relocated down the street to Modulor, a haven for artists, architects and craftsmen at Moritzplatz in Berlin Kreuzberg. We like art, and a lot of our biggest projects have been for artists who need help creating large installations
Formcut is a young, independent company that specializes in engraving and cutting a wide variety of materials, including plywood, mdf, hardwoods, softwoods, acrylic, corian, non-ferrous metals, from well under 1 mm to as thick as 10 cm. Our machine was built several years ago by Axel Stab, an engineer, and it is no exaggeration to say that formcut would never have come into existance without his help. Thank you Axel!
The cutting area of our cnc machine is 1900 x 1250 cm. We cut using the vector files sent to us (.pdf/.ai/.dxf/.dwg) with a cutting depth of 65mm, as well as angled cuts of 45 or 60 degrees. (It is possible for us to cut using other files or even hand drawings, but that is more difficult and hence more expensive.) We make Signs for companies and restaurants, awards, plinths for exhibitions in museums or galleries, 3D letters, shelving, art production, inlays, and engraving, etc, etc. Here is a link to information about what is needed for submitting a request for a quote. Further information about the various materials that we work with can be found here, and here.
